Rotary Drum Dryer
Rotary drum dryer that tumbles bulk granular and dense materials through co- or counter-current hot air for large-batch continuous drying.
Overview
In the rotary drum dryer, wet material fed into one end of the drum is tumbled by evenly distributed lifters, dispersing it and bringing it into full contact with co-current (or counter-current) hot air to accelerate heat and mass transfer. Inclined lifters and the hot-air stream move the material in a controlled way to a star discharge valve at the far end, where the finished product leaves.
Features
- Highly mechanized with a large production capacity
- Low flow resistance through the drum and low energy consumption
- Strong adaptability to different material properties
- Stable operation, low operating cost and uniform product drying
- Co-current, counter-current and composite heating arrangements
Working Principle
Lifters distributed inside the drum tumble and disperse the wet material while the drum rotates. The inclined drum and the hot-air stream advance the material along its length in full contact with the gas, and the dried product is discharged through a star valve at the outlet.

Applications
Large, dense particles in the chemical, mining and metallurgical industries — ore, blast-furnace slag, coal, metal powder, phosphate fertilizer and ammonium sulfate — as well as special powders and granules such as foaming agents, distiller's grains, light calcium carbonate and graphite, and any low-temperature, large-batch continuous drying. In practice it has dried ore at about 1000 kg/h, blast-furnace slag at about 15000 kg/h and coal at about 5000 kg/h, across co-current, counter-current and composite heating configurations.
