Ceramic powders — alumina, zirconia, silicon nitride and nano materials — are spray-dried (granulated) from a slurry into free-flowing granules with a controlled size, ready for pressing and sintering.

The drying challenge

  • Flowable granules needed for even die-filling in pressing.
  • Narrow size distribution for consistent sintering and density.
  • Low contamination, since impurities become defects in the fired part.

Why spray drying fits

  • Granulation for pressing. Spray drying turns a fine slurry into spherical, free-flowing granules that fill dies evenly.
  • Narrow distribution. A tight particle distribution (D10–D90 ≤5μm on fine powders) gives consistent sintering and can lower the sintering temperature by 100–200°C, raising density.
  • Clean operation with stainless-steel contact parts to limit contamination.
  • Nano materials can be dried to a well-dispersed powder — for example high-surface-area alumina for battery-separator coatings.
